Two Important Steps to Organize a Clothes Closet

If you want to organize a clothes closet effectively, there are two things you will need to make sure that you do. These can mean the difference between keeping your closet organized or having it turn into a mess again in a few weeks.

Purge
You must have the ability to get rid of some of your clothes if you want to be able to organize a clothes closet. You should have two to three categories when you purge: keep, get rid of, and undecided. The undecided pile should be small. If it is bigger than your other two piles, go through it again. Your undecided clothes should go in the back of your closet. In six months revisit that section of your closet and get rid of any clothes that you have not worn. If you wear an item during those six months, remove it from that section and put it in the appropriate category in your closet.

Make It Easy to Find Things
Not everyone looks for clothes or anything for that matter in the same way. The solution that you use to organize your clothes closet should be unique to you. There are some general ideas about different ways to organize clothes like by type or by color. But the best thing to do is to look at your clothes and ask yourself: How would I look for my flowered blue short sleeve shirt in my closet? Asking questions like this will help you get specific on what method would work best for you. Would you look for it with other short sleeved shirts or would you look for it with other blue shirts? Think about what makes sense to you and organize your clothes closet that way.
